Logo and brand identity
Logo design, visual identity systems, typography, colour palettes and brand guidelines built to work on a business card, a truck, a storefront and a phone screen. Marks drawn to fit the business rather than a trend.
Gravitait Design is a boutique graphic design studio in Hanover, Maryland, halfway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. Since 1998, designer Patti Tait has created logos, brand identity systems, annual reports, catalogs, advertising and exhibit graphics for Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, universities and family businesses across Maryland and beyond.
Twenty-seven years of catalogs, annual reports, logos and advertising for clients across Maryland and Washington, DC. Click any piece to page through it.
Boone & Sons is a three-generation family jeweler with stores in Chevy Chase, Washington and McLean. “A Family Tradition” is their signature catalog: black and gold, generous white space, and jewelry photography given room to breathe. The relationship has continued for nearly twenty years through holiday catalogs, magazine spreads and event invitations.
Sweet Minerals makes mineral cosmetics sold through a network of consultants, so every catalog has to sell the product and the lifestyle at once. We built the seasonal catalogs on lifestyle photography and a clean typographic grid, introduced the Liquid Minerals line, and designed the Glam Club identity for their subscription program.
For The Adams Express Company, which began as a nineteenth-century delivery company and became a closed-end fund in 1929, we developed the “Generation after generation, we grow with you” identity and a series of annual reports built around it. For the Alliance for Consumer Education, “Heroes in the Community” put a caped kid on the cover of a public-health annual report and made the numbers inside feel human.
A logo has to work on a business card, a truck, a storefront and a phone screen. Over twenty-five years we have designed marks for wine cellars, dermatologists, dive shops, junk haulers, capital firms, county safety programs and a children’s charity, each one drawn to fit the business rather than a trend.

Graphic design for clients across Maryland and Washington, DC: identity, print and digital, handled by one senior designer from first sketch to press check.
Logo design, visual identity systems, typography, colour palettes and brand guidelines built to work on a business card, a truck, a storefront and a phone screen. Marks drawn to fit the business rather than a trend.
Annual report design for nonprofits, funds and institutions, plus magazines, brochures and books — editorial layout, financial tables, infographics and the print management to land them on schedule.
Product and sales catalog design that organizes complex information clearly: line sheets, product pages, price lists and the print kits that go with them, from twelve pages to two hundred.
Campaign concepts and layouts for magazines, newspapers and digital placements — full pages, spreads and banner units, built to a publication’s specs and sized for every placement in the buy.
Tradeshow exhibit graphics, retractable displays, large-format signage, posters and environmental branding — designed at scale and prepared for wide-format production.
Digital assets aligned to your brand system — web banners, social templates, email headers and ad units — so every touchpoint matches what you print.
Based in Hanover, MD. Serving Baltimore, Annapolis, Columbia, Howard and Anne Arundel counties, Washington, DC, and clients nationwide.
Gravitait works with clients anywhere in the country. Catalogs, annual reports and identity programs are researched, designed and delivered remotely every year, and a project in Denver gets the same senior attention as one in Baltimore. Maryland is simply where twenty-seven years of that work has concentrated — Hanover sits at the BWI crossroads, which puts most of the Baltimore–Washington corridor within an easy drive when a job wants a press check, a photo shoot or a face-to-face review.
Most projects run entirely on email, shared proofs and the phone. Clients well outside the region get the same press-ready files and the same designer on the other end.
Annual reports, nonprofit campaigns and institutional print for organizations across Baltimore City and Baltimore County.
Identity work, brochures and event collateral — Gravitait’s home county, and the shortest drive on the board.
Logos, catalogs and marketing print for Howard County retailers, professional practices and schools.
Two decades of catalog, advertising and publication work for DC clients, including Boone & Sons on Connecticut Avenue.
Magazine advertising, campaign design and brand systems, including work seen in Bethesda Magazine.

What it costs, how long it takes, what you get, and who actually does the work.
Every logo is quoted as a fixed project fee once we understand the scope: how many concepts you want to see, whether you need a full identity system with stationery and brand guidelines, and how many file formats you need. A single mark for a small business is a very different project from a multi-brand identity system, so we give you the number before any work starts — no hourly surprises.
No. Gravitait takes work anywhere in the country, and a good share of it is delivered entirely remotely. The studio is based in Hanover, Maryland, at the BWI crossroads, so clients in Baltimore, Annapolis, Columbia, Bethesda, Washington, DC and the surrounding counties get the option of in-person reviews and press checks — but that is a convenience, not a requirement.
You work directly with Patti Tait, the studio principal, from the first conversation through the press check. There is no account layer, no junior handoff and no design-by-committee. That is the point of a boutique studio.
A standalone logo typically runs three to five weeks from kickoff to final files. A full identity system with stationery, brand guidelines and collateral usually takes six to ten weeks. Catalogs and annual reports depend on how much content is ready — we will map the schedule against your print deadline at the start.
You receive a complete package: vector EPS and AI masters, print-ready PDFs, and web-ready PNG and SVG files in full colour, one colour and reversed versions. You own the artwork outright, and the files are organized so any printer or web developer can use them without calling us first.
Yes — annual report design is one of the studio’s specialties. We have produced reports for The Adams Express Company, which began as a nineteenth-century delivery company and became a closed-end fund in 1929, and the Alliance for Consumer Education, among others. That work covers editorial design, infographics, financial tables, photo direction and print management.
Either way. We can prepare press-ready files for a printer you already use, or manage the whole thing — quotes, paper selection, proofing and the press check. Twenty-seven years of production experience means fewer reprints and fewer surprises on the invoice.
Constantly. Alongside Fortune 500 and institutional clients, much of the studio’s work is for nonprofits, family businesses, professional practices and schools. Scope is scaled to the budget rather than the other way round.
For most small and mid-sized organizations, a senior solo designer gives you better work per dollar: you get twenty-seven years of experience on your project instead of an agency’s junior team, and you are not paying for an account department. For campaigns that need large teams, photography crews and media buying, an agency makes more sense — we will tell you if that is your situation.
We design web and social graphics that match your brand system — banners, ad units, social templates and imagery. For full website builds we work alongside your developer, supplying the visual system and assets so the site matches everything else you print.
Four steps: a short discovery conversation about the business and the audience; concepts presented as real applications rather than floating logos on white; one or two rounds of refinement; then final files and, if the piece is going to press, the press check. You see work early and often.
Email Patti or call (410) 917-8605 with a sentence or two about the project and your deadline. You will get a reply within one business day, and a fixed quote after a short call.
